Nobska Farms

In the beautiful Cape Cod town of Falmouth, MA a local legend nicknamed, "Rooster," and his wife, Marianne, are turning up the heat. Rooster is the genius (a scientist and former professor at MIT) behind the flourishing farm of over 80 varieties of hot chili peppers which are used in their trademarked products including hot sauces, chipotle seasoning, salsa and chocolates. While on an editorial assignment for Falmouth Magazine I had an opportunity to spend the afternoon with the Fricke's listening to the stories of their favorite peppers, their relationship with the community and the love they have for growing specific varieties of peppers for so many people looking for the nostalgic taste of home. From "Scotch Bonnets" originating from Jamaica to the famous "Ghost Peppers" of India to the hottest pepper in the world, the "Carolina Reaper," Rooster has recreated the perfect environments for each variety of pepper growing on his meticulously maintained farm. A relaxing walk around the grounds, accompanied by a few friendly chickens, made for some great images to accompany a beautiful story written by Lannan O'Brien.
